View of the Ramon Crater, Mitzpe Ramon, Negev, Israel — November 1996
The Ramon Crater is a stunning formation that is forty kilometers long and two to ten kilometers wide. Some say it is shaped like an elongated heart. The crater is a part of the Ramon Nature reserve that also includes the surrounding Negev mountains. Although I spent about 10 minutes here, I would have to say that it was a remarkable part of my Middle East journey.
Nahal Prazim chalk canyon, Negev, Israel — November 1996
The rarely visited Nahal Prazim canyon is simply an incredible place — a highlight of all my Negev explorations and a playground for all. The canyon is craved out of soft, chalky earth during flash-flooding and contains bazaar formations, caves and chutes. The ubiquitous dust grays our clothes, face and hair giving us the appearance of an 86-year old. Having limited time, the two hours I spend in this fantasy land are not enough. Do not miss this spot if you are at all interested in geology or nature or having a good time.
