Stick people, Shigatse, Tibet — December 2, 2004
I found these guys wandering the back alleys of Shigatse. In Tibet, and in much of Asia, people are often seen carrying, moving or otherwise relocating all types of heavy items. I cannot imagine how much these sticks weigh, but by judging on their size and the expression on these chaps’ faces, I cannot imagine they are light. In all their effort though, it’s amazing how people can just still smile and enjoy the task at hand.
Feeling a bit like Lenny Kravitz, Shigatse, Tibet — December 1, 2004
I regret not buying this Tibetan jacket. The sellar wanted the equivalent of $100 US, an impulsive splurge indeed; too bad I did not stomach the cost.
Goat carcass for sale, Shigatse, Tibet — December 2, 2004
In the late-autumn and winter, store owners simply put their perishable items on the street. The cold outside acts as a giant, natural freezer. In fact, someone mentioned the shelf-life is one year because of the dry, cold weather in Shigatse.
