Monday, Sep 19, 2022 — London
Today was the Queen’s funeral. Today was also the day we booked our tickets to fly through London Heathrow. Though no one can be blamed for the coincidental timing of our flight with the beloved Queen’s funeral, let me just say that flying throuhg London on the day of a monarch’s funeral is a bad idea. We did book our flight well in advance of the unexpected ceremonies this day, but to make a long story shorter, we became stuck in London for the night (and our bags become stuck for several days longer.) After a tremendous queue, we ended up meeting with Nic and Lizzie for a dinner in the evening, and staying at a rather dismaly airport hotel, the Ibis Sytles. Anyhow, all worked out eventually and we finally made it home.
Tuesday, Sep 20, 2022 — Flight home
We Uber back to the aiport and board United Airlines flight UA900. At 10:25am, our Boeing 777-200ER (N27015) takes off. The plane is half full in the back, so we have a spare seat which gives a roomy feeling. The flight is quick and easy. We land at 13:40, the same day, flying west means we land just a few hours after we take off, even the flight is 11 hours, 15 minutes! I love time zone travel.
