Einsiedeln Abbey, Switzerland — September 10, 2022
Einsiedeln Abbey, a Catholic monastery administered by the Benedictine Order, is located in the village of Einsiedeln, Switzerland. Dedicated to Our Lady of the Hermits, it honors Meinrad of Einsiedeln, a hermit Catholic saint. For centuries, it has been a major resting point for pilgrims on their way to the Santiago de Compostela Cathedral in Spain, traveling along the Way of Saint James. It is the most significant pilgrimage site dedicated to the Virgin Mary in Switzerland. The abbey also operates a private high school and supports itself through a winery, sawmill, restaurant, and other small businesses.
