Storing glassware at the Nagar glass factory, Yangon, Myanmar — June 2, 2004

The glass factory actually stored its new glass this way. (No, this is not a pile going to the recycling center.) The way I understood it (and translation was tough at times) this is the best way for them to store their merchandise. When someone orders a set of something, an employee sorts through the pile and finds eight of the same thing. If something has broken, they quickly go make a new replacement. This system makes sense in a country where everyday necessities like cardboard boxes are so rare. And glass is waterproof after all, so the monsoon rain pouring down this month only helped to keep the goods clean and shiny.
