Super Guitar Soukous is a musical history of Zairian Soukous. The album is a diverse selection of Soukous styles, from traditional Zairian Langala, to African rumba melodies and the Polibet styles of the Ivory Coast. With a wide variation of soukous sounds, Super Guitar Soukos contains songs from such celebrated musicians as Kanda Bongo Man, Tabu Ley, General Defao, and Pepe Kalle. The liner notes that accompany the album discuss the history of Soukous, tracing its origins from Cuba's Latin influences to Africa, where it was melded into a completely unique sound. The information is quite informative and discusses the contributions each artist on the compilation has made to the soukous sound. This album is an excellent introduction to the world of Soukous but will also satisfy even the most discriminating listener of soukous.
