It is rare to find a travel guide that so comprehensively covers its subject. Vancouver is one in a series of Lonely Planet's 'City Guides' that focuses on a specific city rather than an entire country or region. Written by BC native Chris Wyness, Vancouver is an essential guide for any visitor to this incredible city. Vancouver is organized to the traditional and proven LP format and the information is easy to find, readily accessible, and extremely precise. At the rear of the book a detailed map of the city, broken up into eight sections, makes navigation around Vancouver a breeze. Further, most restaurant and hotel recommendations are referenced to a specific map, on which they are identified with a number, to make finding a location within the city a simple task. For many locations Wyness provides the number of the bus necessary to reach the destination, and in a city with an adequate public transit system, makes getting around Vancouver a simple and inexpensive task. Wyness also provides information on excursions from Vancouver including Victoria, the Sunshine Coast, many of the smaller islands, and Whistler. While lacking the glitzy full color photographs that dominate many guidebooks, Vancouver offers the reader a wealth of practical information that is indispensable. Vancouver will be an essential resource for any visitor to this beautiful city and will have significant value to the traveler in any budget category.
