Leaving Tsawwessen Ferry Terminal

On a dreary Vancouver morning, Chris took the Dutch to visit his homeland, the city of Victoria on Vancouver Island. Leaving from the Tsawwassen Ferry terminal, they left for Victoria on a day that seemed to promise rain.

Playing With AC, Victoria

Once on the Island the weather steadily improved. As the day warmed, the group went to the beach to play in the sand with AC.

A Victoria Landmark, The Empress Hotel

After playing on the Beach, the Dutch met Chris's mom and brother. They enjoyed a wonderful picnic overlooking the ocean. In addition to Mom's wonderful cooking, she had mouthwatering home-baked treats for all. They had a cake to celebrate Mark's birthday, and Mom even sent two pieces and a decorative rose home for Todd and Nicole. After lunch Chris took the Dutch sightseeing in Victoria.

Orcas Swimming Through Active Pass

On the ferry back to Vancouver that evening, the Dutch were extraordinarily lucky to spot a pod of Orcas. A rare sighting, Orcas are animals not often seen. This pod was sighted in Active Pass, a narrow channel through which the ferry must travel to reach Vancouver. This is an ideal location to see Orcas because they are forced to swim relatively close to the ship.
